Nightless Nights
“I follow the trails to the far end of the property, where the well stands too close to the shore. It’s an old thing, a pile of rocks that barely hold on to each other and fail to keep the rain and lake water out. And after years of being out of use, small trees have claimed the surrounding ground, sheltering me from view.
If anywhere, it’s in a place like this where I can imagine magic gathering. Not next to a boardwalk on a public beach or behind the pool house of some grand villa. Or maybe it’s just so effortless to feel grounded here, where the soil is right under my feet, the forest so vast it might swallow me whole, and the sky so unnaturally light it’s difficult not to believe in magic.”
